Boccia is a Paralympic sport (one of the three sports with no Olympic equivalent), played between two athletes, pairs, or teams of three players.

It is a sport for individuals with cerebral palsy or neuromuscular conditions who use a wheelchair, and it is played both recreationally and at a competitive level. It is a demanding sport that requires concentration, coordination, precision, teamwork, and strategic thinking.

Matches are held indoors. The objective of the game is for players to throw their balls (leather so they don’t bounce), either blue or red, as close as possible to the white target ball (the Jack). The order of play is determined by a draw. The athlete or team that wins the draw has the right to choose whether to play with the red or blue balls. The player using the red balls starts first, throwing the white ball first and then a red ball.

The ball can be propelled by hand, by foot, or with the help of an assistive device (ramp) when players have significant mobility limitations in their upper and lower limbs. Afterwards, the opponents throw their balls, aiming to get as close as possible to the target ball.

At the end of each round, the referee measures the balls closest to the target, and the scores are tallied to determine the winner.

Our club’s Boccia training sessions take place at the 1st Primary School of Thessaloniki, Ag. Eleftheriou Square 1 – Moschonision 2, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 17:00 to 19:00.
